Each day, the first job of the keepers is to say “good morning” to all the lemurs. The animals are still in their night quarters from the evening before. (Vera, the collared lemur, and Kate and Emma, the sifakas, often want a little extra “hello” and attention, in the form of a raisin, first thing each day.)

Then the keepers prepare the lemurs’ morning meal and get their daytime exhibit spaces ready for action. They make sure everything is clean and tidy, and they hide a few treats like grapes throughout the exhibit for the lemurs to find.

The lemurs are out in their exhibit spaces to greet the public when Madagascar! opens at 10:00 a.m.

Throughout the day, keepers observe the lemurs, and in the afternoon, they provide treats. (By the way, all treats count toward the animals’ daily quota of food; that’s how the lemurs maintain their runway-ready figures.)

In the evening, keepers call the lemurs back in to their night quarters. There, they eat dinner, enjoy some toy time, and finally, sleep.
